autoself.jpg (15350 bytes)
Auto-Tuning and self-Tuning Function
Leeds&Northrup's temperature controllers are equipped with a propierary self-tuning algorithm named SMART. SMART continuously monitors the process variable and auto matically adjusts the P.I.D. parameters according to the process variable's response. As a result, no artificial changes need to be injected into the system.

During start-up the SMART function implements auto-tuning, calculating the value of the P.I.D. parameters to optimize the set point approach. During control SMART implements self-tuning, updating the P.I.D. parameters according to the type of response due to a set point change as load change

softstart.jpg (20680 bytes)

Soft Start
To increase heater life and avoid thermal shock, a soft start function allows for gradual preheating of the controlled process. Soft Start is activated simply by programming the power output to be used during preheating and its duration. The alarm masking function assures that no false indication will occur during preheating. To ensure that the process always operates within safe conditions, the Soft Start function can be transformed into a continuous power output limiting function (infinite duration). The output power maximum rate can be also programmed, to avoid thermal shock during operation.

updown.jpg (21744 bytes)
Two independent ramps (up and down) for set point changes
Some processes require a ramp to reach a new setpoint value. The new setpoint may require different rates of rise. For example, a process may need a fast heating period and slow cooling period. Leeds&Northrup's temperature controllers allow you to program ramps to both increase and decrease to new set point values. NOTE: These two independent ramps can also be applied to the SP-SP2 transfer.

offset.jpg (16518 bytes)
OFFSET on the measured value
In many applications, it is difficult to locate the sensor in the ideal position. Incorrect sensor positioning may produce a measured value that is not a true representation of the process value. Leeds&Northrup's temperature controllers allow for programming of a continuous offset, to ensure that the measured value reflects the true value of the process.
